An Antique Hoosier in My Favorite Color

I love the color blue.   My kitchen is blue, I use blue in various places in my house.   My favorite color is sapphire blue and cobalt blue.  So when my husband finished an antique Hoosier cabinet and he asked what color I wanted it….Blue was the obvious answer.

Antique Hoosier

Before

The Hoosier cabinet used to be off-white similar to the one in the picture below from Hoosier Homemade.

Hoosier

It was in the corner of his grandmother’s kitchen from the time I started dating him till she passed away in 2001.  Actually, my husband says it was there when he was a child.   When she passed,  it was put into storage and has been there ever since.   It was in very poor shape.  Some of the wood had rotted, some warped, paint was all chipped, wasn’t sure we could salvage it.

Michael spent many hours rebuilding the parts that were in bad shape and then scraping the old paint and finally refinishing the cabinet.

I wasn’t sure how it would look or if I wanted it in my house.  If I did, where would I put it?

After

Once it was finished I loved how it looked.  The color was perfect and we decided to put it in our kitchen.

When we remodeled, I had planned to put a loveseat or two chairs against this wall so people could relax and socialize while in the kitchen, but I gave that idea up to include this gem.

We Love It!

We get lots of comments on this Hoosier when people visit.  My husband is very proud of his work refinishing it, and I feel like his grandmother would be very happy that we have this piece in our home.  The antique Hoosier cabinet is now a family treasure.
