Celebrations are so exciting! Every year the band boosters in our district host a banquet for the band members. It is a celebration of another successful season and honors the seniors.
I have been involved in the boosters since my son joined the band in seventh grade. The first year I attended meetings but didn’t have a clue what was going on. I attended the banquet, but didn’t know all that went into it.
The next year I helped with the planning and the organization. Then when he was in 9th grade, I took over chairing the banquet. This year was the fourth year I served as chair. I enjoy all the details of planning the menu, the theme, the decorations, and working with the group to host this event.
We go all out to make it a night the kids will enjoy and remember. The band director makes it very special for the students by purchasing gifts and t-shirts, awards, etc.
I wanted this year to be special since it was my final year chairing it and Neal’s senior year. We went with a “Memories” theme.
To remind the students of all the great “band memories” I made candy wrappers with pictures and bottle wrappers from the band season.
The band director always takes lots of pictures and they were displayed around the room.
Tussey’s colors are scarlet and black, so we used them and some white to the decorations.
For the past several years we have had a Chocolate Fountain and that has been a big hit. The students love dipping pretzels, marshmallows, and strawberries into the chocolate.
I felt very special when the band director and boosters honored me and my work. I was presented with a beautiful flower arrangement.
Everyone had a fun night.
For me it was bittersweet. Another last in a long series. Another thing that I enjoy is coming to an end. I will miss my time with the boosters and serving as an officer for the group. But I know some great people that are more than capable of taking over. It is time to move on and see what new thing is waiting in the wings.
