We arrived at Georgetown Grand Cayman around 7:00 AM. Even though we docked early, we decided to sleep in. Our goal was to get off the ship around 10:30.
Our Day in Grand Cayman
We enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the Windjammer and then went back to our room to grab our stuff and head for shore.
Because our boat was too large to get close to the shore, we had to be tendered.
It was a lovely ride to shore. As you can see in the picture, the water was a bright turquoise blue.
The Island
It was just a short ride to the shore at Georgetown, Cayman Island. As soon as you get off the tender you are greeted with this sign welcoming you to the Islands.
We decided prior to the cruise to just check out the town and not do a paid shore excursion. Almost all the excursions involved turtles or stingrays and that didn’t excite us. In hindsight…we should have done a paid excursion here, the weather was beautiful and we would have seen and enjoyed a lot more on an excursion.
We walked around the island and checked out various shops.
It is fairly small so you can walk to most of the tourist shops. A lot of stores with the same thing in them. Similar to the boardwalk at the beach. There were also lots of diamond and jewelry stores.
We were intrigued by this church. It had beautiful stain glass windows and wood inside. The church was right along the main street and open for the public to enjoy.
Elmslie Memorial United Church.
The view of the ocean from the shore was beautiful. The water was so clear. You can see some working vessels hear along the shore and another cruise ship in the distance.
We found some free WiFi at a cafe and spent about 15 minutes there checking out current events in the world and having a snack. (We did not purchase the internet package on the ship. On a previous cruise, friends had purchased internet and it rarely worked. We thought it might be good to unplug. For all of us to have wifi on the ship it would have been an extra $30 per day if we pre-ordered. Once on the ship it was $20 per day per person. )
We considered eating at one of the little cafes but decided the food on the ship was so good we would just eat when we got back.

Heading back to the ship.
We tendered back to the ship around 2 and enjoyed a late lunch buffet.
Relaxing Afternoon
We headed to the Solarium for the afternoon to relax and enjoy the salt water pool. The solarium is an adults only pool and hot tub area. They drain the salt water pool every couple of days at night and refill in the morning.
I loved the feel of this area and all the plants. It had an India theme with lots of elephants.
There is a snack bar near the solarium with all kinds of healthy salads and sandwiches, fruit and some cookies and desserts.
I spent time swimming, reading and just relaxing.
Evening
Early evening we went to a show; Production Showtime: Now and Forever. It was a great show with wonderful costumes and songs we enjoyed. Lots of ABBA and other songs we knew.
After the show, we headed to dinner. I think this was the evening we all had turkey. They included all the trimmings and it was great. No complaints from our table.
Liv and Neal left dinner early to go see a show, the photographer captured Mike and me after dinner.
After dinner, Mike and I headed to the Centrum for the ’50s and 60’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Party. Then we enjoyed 50’s and 60’s Dance Music with Locomotion.
Around 11 we headed to the Adults Only Majority Rules Game in the Comedy Club. It was great for a lot of laughs.
We then thought we would take in a bit more dancing and music at the StarQuest lounge on the 13th deck. It looks over the ship. It was advertised as a Dancing Through the Decades evening and we thought it would be more 50’s and 60’s, etc. music. We were there about 15 minutes and realized we were too old for the noise they called music and called it a night. Probably great for the 20 somethings, but not for us. No one was dancing!
That night a towel stingray was waiting for us on our bed.
Tomorrow is Cozumel, Mexico!
