Clothes Dryer Battle

One of the funny things that happened to us in Paris was our “WAR” with the dryer!  One of the reasons we decided to stay in “flats” was because we wanted to pack lightly and be able to do laundry.  This has always worked out great for us in the past.

Washer-dryerNew Kind of Machine

Our first day in Paris we decided it was time to do laundry.   The washers here are different.  You wash and dry in the same machine!  Never heard of this before.  But you wash, then switch the settings to dry and you dry your clothes.

The War

The problem for us was all the words on the washer/dryer were in French.

We figured out the washer part and thought we had the dryer figured out, but it kidnapped our clothes and wouldn’t set them free.   They had been drying for over two hours and we literally could not get them out.   Even when the dryer was off, the door would not open.

So three of us were crammed into a tiny closet trying to figure out how to set our clothes free.  We had quite a few chuckles trying to rescue our clothes.

Evidently it is some type of safety feature and the dryer has to be off for two minutes before you can open the door.

A Wrinkled Mess

When we finally were able to open the door, our clothes had been drying about three hours and were one big wrinkled mess!

Wrinkled MessThis is only showing two pairs, but there were 2 pair of capris, one set of slacks and three pair of shorts and they all looked like this!  What a mess!  The funny things that happen when you travel!

We did figure out that it must circulate hot water inside the system to dry the clothes.    It has no vent, so we can’t figure any other way.    We were able to wash and dry another load, but shut the thing off after an hour….still damp and hung them to dry.

Have you ever used this type of washer/dryer?  Thoughts?
