My husband is a train buff! He has loved trains since he was a small child. When the trains ran through our small town of Saxton, he often rode them to Huntingdon and back just for the fun of it. In his adult years, he has enjoyed the hobby of model trains. His dream is to have a whole room with a model train layout.
In January 2018, a national model train show, World’s Greatest Hobby On Tour, was held in Monroeville. When my husband learned about it, he wanted to go and I was game to ride along and then go to the Holiday Magic: Let it Glow Light Show.
Trains, Trains, Trains
Everywhere you looked there were trains. Which is what you would expect at a model train show, but I was amazed at how many different sizes there were and the variety.
They had everything from passenger cars, engines, cabooses, coal cars, and more.
Some of the vendors had old trains (antiques) they were selling.
Table after table had trains for sale.
Some of the engines were fancy and some were just regular black engines.
Train Show Highlights
Lego Train Layout
An entire layout completely made of Legos grabbed my attention. Everything from the train cars, to the track, to the buildings, and scenery. It was huge and the detail was amazing.
Model Buildings
I used to think the hobby of Model Railroading was just collecting trains. But it is so much more. One of my husband’s favorite part of the model railroading is building small buildings or models.
They had quite a variety of buildings and kits on display.
Other Model Train Supplies
Other supplies on hand to purchase included train tracks, small trees, street lights and other decorations.
There were bins and pins of small things needed for railroads.
School buses, fire trucks and other items used as scenery.
They also had tools and supplies.
Other Train Related Memorabilia
I was amazed by how many other things related to trains were on sale. T-shirts, signs, license plates, lanterns, and more.
Entertainment
This particular train show had entertainment type things for kids. There was a large play area with railroad track and toy trains, a caboose where the children could go inside and look out for picture taking and a Character dressed up as en engineer greeting everyone.
Thomas the Tank Engine was there and kids could ride for free!
My Favorite Thing
My husband was in 7th heaven with all the train stuff, but my favorite thing at the event was the Chocolate Covered Bacon! It was to die for. My mouth is watering just thinking about how good it was.
Another Train Show
There are train shows by the group all around the country several times per year. There are many other train shows available in the area.
